Sage Veterinary Services offers home based, personalized care for geriatric pets during this important stage of life. Advanced preventative care and prompt treatment of illness has led to many more pets today living to an advanced age. With this delightful trend has come some particular challenges; many geriatric pets face difficulties with chronic pain, decreased mobility, reduced cognitive ability and weight loss or gain.
Why Special Care for Geriatrics?
It has been Dr. Thorpe’s experience that many pet owners are unprepared for the adjustments necessary to gracefully navigate these special years. They may feel conflicted when facing decisions regarding aggressive treatment and diagnostics or confused regarding particular lifestyle changes that can greatly enhance quality of life for their older pet. Dr. Thorpe would like to provide pet families with support and services as they make this transition.
What to Expect?
Specifically, Sage Veterinary Services offers complete and personalized geriatric assessments in the comfort of your home. The initial visit will include a review of previous medical records and radiographs (if provided), full physical and myofascial palpation exams, mobility assessment and possibly bloodwork. Dr. Thorpe will then discuss your pet’s problems as well as your specific concerns. The goal is to come up with a plan together to help your pet age contentedly and without undue discomfort.
